Villagers can now enjoy clean water supply.

SERIAN: After depending on rainwater as their only source of water, villagers of Kampung Merakai can now enjoy a steady supply of clean water after the completion of a water pipeline project here.

The state government, under the Ministry of Utilities with Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB Sarawak) as the implementing agency, planned a project to solve water supply issues at the village.

“The project costs around RM5 million and was completed on Dec 15 last year.

“It included the construction of a 250mm diameter ductile iron (DI) and 225mm diameter HDPE (high density polyethylene pipe) pipelines from Simpang Ladang Gedong to Kampung Merakai and the installation of communication pipes,” the ministry said in a statement yesterday.

Kampung Merakai, located across Sungai Senyabah Gedong, Serian, has a population of 445 people.

The statement further said that the project has brought a big impact to the villagers, including the 55 staff and students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Merakai.
