Visitors bring along RM1.6m cheque during courtesy call

KUCHING: The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday received two courtesy visits at his residence in Demak Jaya here.

The first visit was from Tabung Haji (TH) Board led by its chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof aimed to hand over TH zakat for Sarawak for the year 2018 amounted to RM1,671,204.03 to Taib on behalf of Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS).

According to a statement from TH, zakat payments for Sarawak registered an increase of 27.1 per cent compared to 2017 (RM1,314,606.41).

At the same time, TH hopes that zakat payments can be utilised by TBS for the economic sustainability of the asnaf category.

Also present was TBS general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) led by Eastern Field Command commander Lt-Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose Mohd Zain also paid a courtesy call on Tun Taib to invite him for breaking fast as well as perform Maghrib, Isyak and Terawih prayers at Solahuddin Al-Ayubbi Mosque, Penrissen Camp on May 14.
