Woman jailed for 7 months after testing positive for meth

KUCHING: A 38-year-old woman was sentenced to seven months’ jail by the Magistrate Court here today (Dec 19) for involvement with drug-related activities last September.

The accused Lydiawati Saharie, 38, pleaded guilty to a charge read by an interpreter before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali.

The court also ordered the accused to undergo two years police supervision after serving the jail term.

The accused is charged in accordance with Section 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234) and read together with Section 15 of the same act which carries a fine up to RM5,000 or jail term of up to two years if convicted.

Reports from the Pathology Department in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) also proved that the accused had tested positive for Methamphetamine.

Meanwhile, at the same court, a man was sentenced to a fine of RM2,700 in default five months’ jail after testing positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine in September.

The accused Mohammad Farizul Sharif, 26, pleaded guilty under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234) and charged under Section 15 of the same act.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Illin prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented.
