THE long awaited 33km Sebuyau-Lingga Road is expected to be constructed by early next year.

Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the road design plan had been completed and approved to be carried out under the Second Trunk Road project.

“The project will involve the construction of a dual carriageway which is of Public Works Department (JKR) R5 standard,” he said in response to Simoi Peri (PBB-Lingga) during question time at the DUN sitting today.

Julaihi said there would also be a bridge passing Sungai Lingga and a small bridge at Sungai Ligi which would allow the road to reach Lingga Town.

“I understand that this road has been long waited by the people of Lingga. Fully paid by the Sarawak government, it will provide connectivity in the rural areas,” he said.

Julaihi added the road would shorten the travelling time from Lingga to Samarahan and Kuching.

“I believe the road will be a catalyst of development and boost the socioeconomic status of the surrounding areas in Lingga.

“I am sure that Sebuyau, as one of the towns in the coastal area, will also be able to benefit from the road project,” he said.
