KUCHING: Sarawak has reported its highest single-day positive cases at 32, bringing the total number to 188 with eight deaths.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said all the new cases were treated at the Sarawak General Hospital.

“Thirty-one cases were local and one was from Samarahan. Most of the positive cases reported yesterday were those screened at Kuching’s Youth and Sports Complex,” he said during a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.

Since March 11, a total of 2,228 people had been screened at the complex, 1,160 samples were taken and 49 had tested positive, 771 were negative and 340 are still awaiting results.

“I appreciate those individuals who volunteered to be screened. Again, we ask people who have had close contact with any positive case to quickly get themselves screened so that we can break the chain of transmission,” he said.

The state has also recorded 66 new persons under investigation (PUI) cases — Kuching (55), Samarahan (2), Bau (1), Sri Aman (1), Bintulu (1) and Miri (6), bringing the total to 1,288 cases. Of these, 1,045 cases were negative and 55 are awaiting test results.
