BALINGIAN: The Community Extension Outreach programme organised by the Agriculture Department Mukah Division here today was timely as the country aims to generate more agricultural products.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said as production increased it would also help to generate more income for the country, and at the same time help to reduce imports.

According to him, agriculture could be developed further considering the fact that Sarawak still has large areas of land suitable for farming.

“The agriculture sector is highly competitive and is one of the major contributors to state and national economy,” he said when officiating at the programme at a community hall in Kampung Kuala Balingian here today.

The former Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) walikota added agriculture could also help unite countries through participation in events such as the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-tourism (MAHA) Show.

According to him, agriculture could also provide areas for research and development (R&D) in order to help increase production and efficiency, which ultimately would generate more income for those involved.
