Over 19k new vaccine doses arrive

SIBU: Sibu today received a total of 19,040 new doses of vaccines, said Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee.

With the arrival of the vaccines, he said it will enable more Sibu residents to be vaccinated in an effort to reach the target of 70 percent or 232,528 residents being inoculated by the end of August to form herd immunity.

“Therefore, another vaccination centre will be opened, namely at the Sibu Jaya Community Hall which is expected to start operating as early as tomorrow (June 12) or the next day.

“We also aim to vaccinate 600 people every day to speed up the vaccination process,” said Dr Annuar, who is also the Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister.

Further elaborating, the Nangka assemblyman added Sibu Jaya Health Clinic and Lanang Health Clinic will also be used as vaccination centres but they only operate on weekends and can only vaccinate 200 people.

“The existing vaccination centre at the Sibu Indoor Stadium is able to vaccinate about 1,600 people every day.

“Apart from (vaccination) centres under the Health Ministry, we also have a non-ministry centre namely the Rejang Medical Centre which is able to vaccinate around 800 people every week,” he explained.

Earlier, Dr Annuar, who is also the Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister, had monitored the preparations at the Sibu Jaya Community Hall.
