KUCHING: The setting up of the Sarawak Rubber Industry Board Bill, 2022 will help lift the economy of the people especially in the rural areas.

Opposition assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa (PSB-Engkilili) proposed that the establishment of this Board be established in every division of the state.

He said this when debating in support to the Bill during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

He added, it is hoped that the whole process can be carried out easily, without many forms to be filled as the people have limited access to go to the city.

“Maybe can send officers from the Board to longhouses for a dialogue and bring along the form.

“This will make it easier for everyone,” he added.

Commenting further, he said the Bill would be able to offer job opportunities as well as improving basic infrastructure in rural areas.

“The Bill should be braced by all of us including the entire rural people especially the farmers,” said Johnical.

According to him, rubber is ‘instant money’ for rural dwellers.

While nipah and sago are suitable to be grown in coastal areas, rubber trees are more centralised in the rural area.
