Dewan adjourns sine die

THE 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) adjourned sine die at 5.30pm yesterday (May 26).

The Second Meeting of the First Session of the 19th DUN was held in full throughout its traditional span of eight days since May 17 for the first time since 2019 as the state progresses towards endemic stage.

This DUN sitting this time around also saw the debut of newly appointed Deputy Speaker Datuk Idris Buang.

On the second day, the Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2022, which was tabled by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, was debated by 16 members and unanimously passed.

The next day witnessed another bill tabled by Deputy Premier and Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan on the Forest (Amendment) Bill 2022, which was also debated and passed.

The second day also saw Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim being elected as the Senator of the Dewan Negara, representing Sarawak.

His election was proposed by Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (GPS-Asajaya) and seconded by Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn (GPS-Tarat).

Throughout the DUN session, 14 ministerial winding-up speeches were presented by its respective ministers.

These include the Education, Innovation and Talent Development Ministry by Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn; Utility and Telecommunications Ministry by Datuk Julaihi Narawi; Minister in Premier of Sarawak’s Department by Datuk John Sikie Tayai; Transport Ministry by Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin; Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Ministry and Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry by Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Ministry by Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Ministry by Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; and Public Health, Housing and Local Government Ministry by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Other ministries are the Natural Resources and Urban Development Ministry and International Trade, Industry and Investment by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; Finance and New Economy Ministry and Infrastructure and Port Development Ministry by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; and the Finance and New Economy Ministry, Natural Resources and Urban Development Ministry and Energy and Energy and Environmental Sustainability Ministry by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The motion of adjournment was tabled by Deputy Creative Industry and Performance Arts Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
