THE PBB women’s wing has always fought for a quota for women in government administration, including politics.

Its Women deputy chief Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said she personally viewed the number of women in politics as still insufficient and which had to be increased.

“This is important because the imbalance in the roles of women and men in the government can cause shortcomings which could affect any decisions taken.

“Women’s touch is very much needed in developing the society, the soft skills that women have are a catalyst to facilitating many matters,” she said.

For the record, the total number of members in the PBB Women’s wing as of June 8 this year is 171,466.

As such, Nancy pointed out that women’s leadership had gained recognition from the party in the last state election when four women candidates who contested were all from PBB and managed to win their respective constituencies.

“In fact the recognition for the struggles and contributions by women in PBB was recorded in the book ‘Wind of Change’. This is a testament to the direction of PBB which does not deny the significant roles of women in politics.

“In line with the 15th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) themed ‘Ensuring stability, prosperity and glory of Sarawak’, PBB’s direction which adheres to the principle of women empowerment as one of the pillars in state and national development is very relevant to ensure the goal of making Sarawak a developed state by 2030 is achieved,” she said.

Nancy, the Batong Sadong MP, also reminded women leaders to be sincere in carrying out their responsibilities and duties for the party and people and avoid seeking personal glory or gains.

“If we are sincere in our efforts, we will be in politics longer,” she added.
