Permyjaya New Township

MIRI: More than two decades ago, Bandar Baru Permyjaya or Permyjaya New Township, 14km from Miri City centre, was just an area with overgrown grasses.

But now, it has become a commercial and residential hub with a fast growing population.

Various amenities for Permyjaya residents.

Permyjaya is also regarded as one of the fastest growing satellite towns in Sarawak.

It is also strategically located — at about 20 minutes’ drive from Sungai Tujoh Customs border checkpoint and 10 minutes’ drives from Curtin University of Technology Sarawak Campus.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin remembered that Permyjaya was just a place with overgrown vegetation in 1996.

“But now, it has expanded in all directions. Permyjaya has really transformed,” he pointed out.

The development of Permyjaya by Naim Land Sdn Bhd covering over 1,214 hectares of land started in 1995.

To date, more than 18,000 residential, commercial and industrial units have been built in the area.

What they say about Permyjaya

‘I bought a house in Desa Bahagia located within Permyjaya New Township. The good location of the area prompted me to buy the house 10 years ago.

‘I believed at that time) Permyjaya would be developed. Now, we have a private hospital (KPJ Hospital) being built near Desa Bahagia. There are supermarkets and countless fast food chains in the surrounding areas.

‘Permyjaya is accessible by roads and public transport.’

Brennan Kee.

‘Besides the availability of basic infrastructure in the area some six years ago, the peaceful neighbourhood influenced my wife and I to buy a house in Permyjaya.

“The community has become larger. Every morning, we face traffic jams when we go to work.’

Wivy yKathyna.

‘I am renting a unit in a flat at Permyjaya to save costs. It takes me less than five minutes to go to my workplace in Tudan.

‘As Permyjaya has expanded into a new township, there is no need for people from Tudan, Senadin or even Kuala Baram to drive to Miri City centre for their grocery items.

“Here, in Permyjaya, we have supermarkets, grocery shops, eateries, schools and healthcare services for the residents.’
