BANDAR BARU PERMYJAYA
MIRI: More than two decades ago, Bandar Baru Permyjaya or Permyjaya New Township, 14km from Miri City centre, was just an area with overgrown grasses.
But now, it has become a commercial and residential hub with a fast growing population.
Permyjaya is also regarded as one of the fastest growing satellite towns in Sarawak.
It is also strategically located — at about 20 minutes’ drive from Sungai Tujoh Customs border checkpoint and 10 minutes’ drives from Curtin University of Technology Sarawak Campus.
Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin remembered that Permyjaya was just a place with overgrown vegetation in 1996.
“But now, it has expanded in all directions. Permyjaya has really transformed,” he pointed out.
The development of Permyjaya by Naim Land Sdn Bhd covering over 1,214 hectares of land started in 1995.
To date, more than 18,000 residential, commercial and industrial units have been built in the area.
