Abang Johari briefed on World Hydropower Congress in Bali

BALI: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili conducted a briefing on the 2023 World Hydropower Congress for Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg this evening.

The briefing session was also attended by Minister of Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang, Chief Political Secretary Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, SEB Board Member Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain and other dignitaries.

Prior to the briefing session, Abang Johari and the delegation attended a dinner which was hosted by SEB at Sheraton Kuta Bali Resort.

The 2023 World Hydropower Congress taking place from Oct 31 to Nov 3 is bringing more than 1,000 decision makers, innovators, and experts from industry, governments, finance, civil society, and academia to Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre.

Over 200 high-level speakers from government, industry, finance, research and society are expected to participate in over 30 sessions covering key issues such as clean energy security and flexibility, climate, water, sustainability as well as policy and finance.

As the leading global event for decision-makers within and outside the hydropower industry, the World Hydropower Congress is more than just a platform for discussion.

Its deliverables in 2023 include reaching consensus on policy and finance recommendations for advancing the clean energy transition to deliver COP28, breaking down barriers to the development of renewables by advancing policy and investment-driven solutions, demonstrating how complementary renewable technologies can be harnessed to fast-track the shift away from coal and highlighting the immense untapped hydropower potential that exists in many regions of the world, particularly Asia and Africa.
