KUCHING: Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How has resigned from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) with immediate effect.

The latter’s resignation was announced by State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohammad Asfia Awang Nassar in a press conference at the DUN Complex here today.

“I have received a letter from See Chee How on Friday, Aug 12 informing his resignation from PSB as a member.

“With See’s resignation as a PSB member, there are now 76 party members from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), three (PSB), two (Democratic Action Party) as well as one independent.

“Following his resignation, the opposition is now down to five members, including one independent,” he stated.

Asfia added that See did not switch parties but rather resigned as a member of PSB and became an independent.

“I find him to be personable, brilliant and competent. He is erudite in presenting his view and opinion in the Dewan.

“He was on the Consultative Committee that advised the Dewan in over the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“I wish him well and I am confident that he can discharge his duties and responsibilities as a DUN member and make a contribution to Sarawak and his constituency,” said the Speaker.

Earlier, Asfia also read out the resignation letter from See dated Aug 12, 2022.

The letter by Chee How reads as follow:
“Kindly be notified that I have resigned my membership from PSB, with immediate effect.

“A copy of my letter of even date to Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, president of PSB is annexed herein for the kind reference and perusal of Yang Berhomat Tan Sri Datuk Amar Speaker.

“Hereafter. I will continue to serve the constituents in N.11 Batu Lintang, Sarawak and all Sarawakians as an independent member of the DUN, to faithfully discharge my duties to the best of my ability, bear true faith and allegiance to the State of Sarawak and to the Federation of Malaysia and I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the State of Sarawak and the Federal Constitution.

“I fully entrust Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Datuk Amar Speaker and your esteem Office to carry out the necessary and needful adjustments, and so forth.”

In response to the question of whether See gave a reason for his decision to depart PSB, Asfia said the latter did not specify that information from his resignation letter.

“Not to me. I read out the letter and that is what the letter said and nothing more. He didn’t say why he resigned from the party,” he pointed out.
