Clean, safe drinking water for all, says Rundi

MIRI: Utilities Minister Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring that people in the state have access to clean and safe drinking water.

He said that his ministry was focusing closely on how best it could supply clean drinking water.

Speaking at the flagging off of a 5-km 2019 Run and Walk event here at 6.30am yesterday, he added that his ministry was also trying to promote awareness of safe drinking water among the people, especially those in the rural areas.

“We set up the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (Sawas) so that we can bring safe clean water to remote areas in the state,” he explained.

The 5km run event was organised by Laku Management Sdn Bhd.

Some 400 people took part in the event which was divided into two categories, namely men’s open and women’s open.

The oldest participant in the men’s open category was Sim Pheng Kwang, 66, while Ronan Sia, 7, was the youngest.

The top four winners of both categories each received RM300, RM200, RM100 and RM80, respectively.

Winners of the fifth to 10th places each received RM50.

The top three winners of the women’s open category were Grace Pui, Lee Siew Shien and Voon Chin Lee, respectively.

The top three winners of the men’s open category were Claveron Ronan Ho, Azamaain Gembar and Chu Chat San, respectively.

Also present was Laku chief executive officer Franklin Ucar.
