LUNDU: The Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) remains committed in its efforts to increase green spaces in the state.

Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way people live all over the world, including in Sarawak. This has made everyone realise the value of open spaces like parks and natural green areas.

He pointed out that these spaces are vital for mental and physical health and can serve as ecotourism sites that generate economic resources for the local community.

“Thanks to FDS for choosing Lundu as the location for the implementation of Le Tour DE Restoration (LTDR) 2.0, which demonstrates the importance of environmental sustainability under the leadership of the Sarawak’s Premier towards achieving the status of Sarawak as a developed state by 2030,” he said at the opening ceremony of LTDR 2.0 in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence held at Centexs Lundu here recently.

Azizul was optimistic that such initiatives will lead to more green projects in the Tanjong Datu constituency.

“This is to ensure that this area remains covered with trees through the cooperation of the community, school students, and higher education institutions,” he added.

Also present were FDS director Datuk Hamden Mohammad, Kuching Deputy Resident Dr Cheong Yaw Liang, head of the Centexs Lundu campus Dr Nor Ashikin Abdul Rahman, Lundu District Officer Gustian Durani and Deputy Director of Forest Conservation and Development Happysupina Saat.
