SIBU: A 74-year-old woman was injured after she was believed to have been attacked by a teenager with a machete in Sungai Naman, Durin on Sunday.
The incident reportedly happened around 8.30am when the woman was removing dead grass from a lawn outside her residence.
The 15-year-old was said to have attacked the woman without uttering a word.
The victim’s husband, who heard her screaming in pain, found her in a bloody condition.
Lanang police were alerted at around 9am.
Sibu OCPD ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit in confirming the case, said the woman suffered injuries on her neck, right arm, right finger, chest and knee.
“She was taken to Sibu Hospital for immediate treatment and is now in a stable condition.
“Investigations found that the woman knew the teenager who lived not far from her but she rarely saw him or greeted him.
“The police managed to arrest the suspect not long after and seized a machete believed to have been used in the attack but the suspect denied any involvement in the incident,” said Stanley.
He revealed that the suspect was still schooling and was living with his siblings as his parents had divorced.
The team questioned the suspect’s brother who was sleeping at home and only knew of the incident from local villagers.
The suspect, who does not have any health or mental issues, is being detained to facilitate further investigations into the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon.
