KUCHING: An embarrassment to Pakatan Harapan (PH) – that’s how political analyst Datuk Peter Minos describes the  Semenyih defeat

Minos said it was expected that PH would lose the by-election because all along, it knew it had not been able to deliver on its 14th General Election (GE14) promises.

“It went too far in not fulfilling its promises. Or rather, it went too far in giving promises, therefore, voters got infuriated and voted against it,” he said today.

“With former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the 1MDB scandal out of the picture, voters turned their guns on PH’s weaknesses and failures,” he said.

Minos said PH’s biggest weakness was that it was a failing government of people who were arrogant and self-glorifying.

He said PH’s ministers spoke like as if they were angels, yet they had fake degrees and came up with “many silly ideas” that Barisan Nasional (BN) exploited to the full.

“With the fake degree scandal and silly ideas from some ministers, PH has created a bad image of itself,” he stressed.

“Looks like PH is losing ground. Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad seems unable and unwilling to control the situation.

“PH will surely lose the next by-election in Rantau.”

In the Semenyih by-election last Saturday, BN’s Zakaria Hanafi won the four-cornered fight with 19,780 votes.

While PH’s Aiman Zanali obtained 17,866 votes, Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul garnered 847 votes and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng won 725 votes.
