Final project students overwhelmed by big support

KUCHING:  Ten students who completed their final project in the “Architecture Portfolio Day” at the Kuching Community College today were overwhelmed with the presence of 78 other students who gathered at the college’s multi-purpose hall in supporting them.

The programme was to ensure the course offered is relevant with the need of the job market. It also offers an insight and description in current issues which relate to the architectural industry in Sarawak.

In the morning, the students were evaluated on their work by those from the industries parties and institution.

In attendance were representative of Kuching district officer Suraijah Zainol; Community College director (Technologies) Fadil Aziz; chief of Programme in Architecture Technology of the Community College, Mohamad Azrin Ramli and Unimas Faculty of Architecture Dean representative, Dr Atta Idrawani Zaini.

Meanwhile in her speech Suraijah stressed the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

– Suraijah who is also the Community College Committee Advisor, gives her address.

“The choices to further studies in the fields of TVET should not be looked upon as a second option in pursuing tertiary education.

“If TVET is an option there would not be skilled workers in the industry. There will not be buildings standing tall if there’s no architect to draw it,” she said.

She also added that without skilled workers, they won’t be a developed country.

Suraijah further explained the five success principles according to an American writer Clerk.

“We need to be open with development of the latest trends. Secondly, we must be able to cope with new technology while thirdly and fourthly we must emphasise on services and emotion. This will lead to the last principle which is entrepreneurship,” she said.

She also added that a strategic planning in connecting the college and the industries are also important as to ensure a bright future for the students.

Also present were MyStech Solution SdnBhd official Francis Emang Ajeng; Nurina Mat Noor from Architect Firm, ArNurina Nurina Mat Noor; PCSS (The Project Management Specialist) Consultancy SdnBhd, Andy Tiong and Kembara Hijrah Resources representative Istab Mohamad.

The Community College graduates in 2017 – 2018 scored the highest employment rate offered to the students at 100 per cent which consisted of students employed based on their studies and students who are engaged in the fields of entrepreneurship.
