KUCHING: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has been urged to give details of his claim that Pakatan Harapan (PH) has fulfilled 60 per cent of its promises.

Without clarification, Lim would be seen as “just picking the figure from the air”, said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (in-charge of Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

To satisfy sceptics, he urged Lim to provide more information on the matter and then perhaps the people would accept the figure.

“If he sticks to the statement, it must include facts pointing out the fulfilled promises one by one,” he said to reporters after officiating at Integrity and Innovation Day as well as Occupational Safety and Health Day of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) at its headquarters, yesterday.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Utilities Assistant Minister (Water Supply), further said that most of PH’s manifesto made during the 14th general election (GE14) had not been fulfilled and the public knew it.

“His statement, I believe, is incorrect. There are a lot more things that need to be done by the PH government in order to fulfill its promises.

“Even Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had acknowledged that some of the promises are impossible to be fulfilled.

“Even so, they had to act solely for political reasons and the election in order to attract attention and votes.

“That was why when the time came (the end of GE14), Tun M himself was surprised that they had won,” he said, adding that the PH did not expect to win.

Dr Abdul Rahman argued that the PH should have prepared its manifesto based on reality, taking into account what could and what would be impossible to implement.

“Promises are important because they are indicators for the people to choose the next government…not empty words and promises merely to gain votes,” he said.

Last Sunday, Lim claimed that about 60 per cent of the pledges made by PH during the GE14 had been fulfilled.

Lim, who is also Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general, said for now the people should give the government time to resolve the country’s financial problems and stabilise the economy.

Lim said so while attending the opening of 2019 Kuala Lumpur Federal Territories DAP Convention in the nation’s capital.
