KUCHING: The Malaysia Fire Department deployed a total of nine flight crew members and an AW189 engineering team to Sarawak to begin detachment work at the Miri airbase.

Sarawak Fire Department director Khirudin Drahman @ Hussaini revealed that the crew boarded an Airbus A-400M aircraft belonging to the Royal Malaysia Air Force (RMAF) from Subang to Kuching on Friday.

Today, they continued their flight to Miri by boarding the Beachcraft King Air 350 (9M-PTA) aircraft belonging to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

“The crew’s deployment and assignment is expected to increase the level of readiness of the department in providing fire and rescue services in Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan.

“At the same time, it is a preparation to face the Northeast Monsoon which is expected to end in March this year,” he said.

Khirudin on behalf of the Sarawak Fire Department, expressed his appreciation to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), PDRM and RMAF for their cooperation and support given to the department.

He noted that the department hoped such close working relationship between the agencies can continue to be maintained in the future.
