Former RTM announcer Coma Smith passes on at 70

KUCHING: The media fraternity today mourned the passing of Coma Smith, Sarawak’s former Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) radio announcer.

Born on July 19, 1953, he passed away at 10.59 am this morning at the age of 70.

Coma’s youngest daughter, Vannesa said her dad succumbed to a heart attack.

“My father was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on Wednesday as he was not feeling well. He was experiencing shortness of breath and was also coughing.

“His condition worsened in the recent days, and sadly he passed away this morning,” she told New Sarawak Tribune.

She said the funeral service for her late father will be held at the St James Anglican Church in Kampung Quap, Mile 10 at 2 pm and thereafter will be laid to rest at the St James Anglican Church cemetery.

Coma is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Meanwhile, Coma’s former colleague Anthony Ramanair, described him as a good colleague.

“He was also a good friend. I was shocked to hear that he has passed on.

“My heartfelt condolences to his family. May he rest in peace,” he said.
