Fried chicken, friends and first day jitters …

The five years old students were excited upon received a visit from Awang Hepeni, accompanied by Dollah.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Do they have fried chicken in school? This was the question asked by Lazarus Vencer Tonee, who is five-years-old, as his mother took him to school yesterday.

Olivia Augustus Manang, 39, said when she told Vencer he was going to school, he was very excited that he would get to have a lot of friends.

“But the funny thing is that he wanted to know whether he could get fried chicken because he loves it so much to the point he calls it Upin Ipin chicken.

“Before this, I had never sent him to any early childhood education centre so this was his first time,” she said at Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato Mohd Musa here.

It was different with six-year-old Nur Shakila Afilia Shahnazrul, who said that she was so excited to go to school that she woke up as early as 5am.

“I am very happy to go to school and I’m not afraid,” she said.

Her mother Nur Shaffina Abdullah, 35, said her daughter had been informed earlier on preparing for school.

“There was no problem even though this is her first time,” she said.

Suara Sarawak observed that many parents were together with their preschool children in class.

Vencer appeared shy initially and refused to let go of his mother’s hand but tnot for long. When the students headed to the library, he trooped along with his new found friends.

Earlier parents and children were welcomed by teachers and the headmaster of SK Dato Musa, Issnu Dollah. The school was also visited by Samarahan district education officer Awang Hepeni Awang Onget.
