MIRI: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) on Saturday announced that they have seized smuggled goods, as well as a lorry, worth RM2,702,580.00.

Sarawak GOF Commander SAC Mancha Ata in a statement said a raid, under an operation dubbed Ops Libas, was carried out on a house at Desa Pujut 2 Permyjaya here on Friday morning at 10.30am.

“The house was suspected of being used as a storage facility for contraband goods,” he said.

The team also apprehended two men — believed to be caretakers of the house — for questioning.

During the raid, 10,590 cartons of illicit cigarettes of various brands, 416 cartons of kretek (unfiltered cigarettes of Indonesian origin), 1,479 boxes of beer, and 249 boxes of liquor were seized.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.

Meanwhile, Mancha said from January until October 23, they have recorded seizures amounting to RM24, 498,413.14 involving 72 cases under Ops Libas.
