KUCHING: The Sarawak government is committed to improving internet penetration and speed in the state, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He pointed out that good internet connections were vital to the state’s efforts to achieve a successful digital economy.

“In the face of the global challenges and competition, the Sarawak government is committed to building the relevant infrastructure.

“Therefore, I urge all educators in the state to always be prepared to embrace change and shift their paradigm in line with the current global demands,” he said in his speech during the 49th state-level Teachers’ Day online celebration yesterday.

Abang Johari pointed out that teachers played a very important role in inculcating awareness and understanding among the students and the public on the importance and benefits of the effort initiated by the Sarawak government.

“Every effort carried out by the Sarawak government is a big agenda that will change the destiny and future of the people of all races, especially in the rural areas.

The chief minister also urged teachers to help students develop their critical and creative thinking skills so that they could adapt to the unpredictable changes in the world.

“This means that teachers must be prepared to take up more challenging roles and responsibilities. They need to equip themselves in order to facilitate students’ learning.

“With the contribution of high quality teachers, I sincerely hope we can turn our students, especially in Sarawak, into excellent, quality human capital, capable of competing with those around the world.

“I want to see the children of Sarawak not only succeed in the state but have a world class mentality and capable of bringing Sarawak to the world stage,” said Abang Johari.
