KUCHING: The recent announcement on the relaxation measures for fully vaccinated individuals is a good start for the country to move forward in resuming normalcy in daily lives, said Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“This will also have positive impact on the local workforce who can look forward to employment which will contribute to boosting the domestic economy.

“We welcome the announcement by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the relaxation for individuals who are fully vaccinated. Among others, the prime minister said that domestic tourism activities within the same state involving homestays and hotels are permitted.

“We fully support the reopening of hotels and homestays as they were forced to close since the Covid-19 pandemic started and the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO) last year,” added the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture in a statement on Monday (Aug 9).

Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister of Youth and Sports, pointed out that the requirement to present Covid-19 vaccination digital certificate was appropriate.

He said such precautionary measures were important and must be complied with to ensure only patrons who had completed their vaccination were entitled to the relaxation.

“The relaxation for outdoor recreational and sporting activities that are subjected to strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) will enable our local folk to indulge in healthy activities with their families and friends.

“Even though the relaxation is confined to non-physical contact sports like jogging, cycling, skateboarding, fishing, golf, tennis, and badminton (single events), it is still good news to the people, especially among the youth who should be encouraged to participate in an active lifestyle,” he said.

He added that all should continue to support the government’s efforts in ending the Covid-19 pandemic.
