KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar stressed today that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had its own ideologies and did not share the ideologies of Perikatan Nasional (PN) parties such as Pas.

“GPS is not with PN, but it is part of the federal government which is PN plus GPS government.

“That means that we don’t share the same political ideologies, positions or stances. We only support the federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin,” he said when fielding questions by reporters.

Wan Junaidi, who is also a senior Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leader, pointed out that in Sarawak, GPS looked after the welfare of the other religions besides Islam.

“What we wanted was a federal government more capable than the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government. We did not want PH and Democratic Action Party (DAP) to take over the government.

“A vote for GPS is a vote for GPS. If you ask Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg (PBB president), Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing (Parti Rakyat Sarawak president), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (Progressive Democratic Party president), Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian (Sarawak United People’s Party president), they will say the same. We have nothing to do with the PN parties. We only wanted to support the PN government.

“Therefore, our stance is still the same, our ideology does not change and the ideologies over the other side have nothing to do with us,” he said.

Wan Junaidi added during the reign of PH, many projects were cancelled.

“Now, under the PN government, many of Sarawak’s wishes have been realised.

Because of the good relationship between the PN government and Sarawak, the Petronas vs Sarawak case was resolved.”

Asked to comment on speculations that Pas and Bersatu — two parties in the PN alliance — would be contesting in the forthcoming state elections in Sarawak, Abang Johari said, “Well, Pas has been here since the 90s and is not accepted by Sarawakians including the Malays here.

“So if Pas wants to contest in Sarawak, we cannot stop it. The same goes for Bersatu. But if they want to work together with us, and we will advise them not to contest. Otherwise, it will affect our working relationship,” he said.

Abang Johari added that the state’s working relationship with Umno was still the same as before.

“That is why Umno does not enter Sarawak … to show its sincerity and maintain the good relationship.”

“I don’t know when the general elections or state elections will be held. But we all are ready. Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is ready,” said the chief minister.
