Grassroots leaders attend seminar on development goals

BETONG: A total of 747 village heads, community leaders and councilors for Betong division took part in the Seminar Pemerkasaan Institusi Pentadbiran Peringkat Akar Umbi Tahun 2022 Peringkat Betong here.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the purpose of the seminar is to disseminate information on the roles of village heads and community leaders (KMKK) as well as the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) in achieving the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

He said the seminar is also to inform the grassroots leaders on the state government’s policies and initiatives, especially in the development of Betong.

“The seminar provides a platform for the grassroots leaders to convey any arising issues to the relevant agencies that are present so that problems faced the local community can be addressed.

“In addition to that, the seminar aims to enhance the their knowledge and skills in handling issues such as natural disasters and social issues,” he said.

He said this at the closing of the seminar at Dewan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan here on Today (Nov 12).

Uggah who is also the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) chairman thanked Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on the RM1.5billion allocation for development projects in Betong.

Through BDDA, he expressed confidence that development projects in Betong will be further enhanced.

“I am confident that BDDA will further enhance the development projects in Betong thus benefiting the people here.

This will surely see Betong to be progressive and in line with the PCDS 2030 which means we are not left behind.

“During this election period, there have been claims made that there are no developments in Sarawak. I urge these people to open their eyes because there are numerous development projects that have been implemented and are taking place in the state,” he said.

Uggah is confident the people of Betong will give their full support to GPS to ensure victory in the parliamentary constituency.

He said the people are going all out to ensure GPS candidate for Betong, Dr Richard Rapu will win in Betong.

“Unfortunately, while we have been busy with campaigning, there are irresponsible parties using racial issues to divide the people. We do not condone this, and we must not allow them to triumph,” he added.
