SIBU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) has always conducted monitoring and enforcement of prices of goods, especially during festive seasons.

Its Sibu chief Roslee Masliee said various steps had been taken to ensure that the prices of goods were affordable and stable.

He urged the public to report to the ministry and relevant agencies if they find any traders selling at a price higher than the 2019 Chinese New Year Price Control Scheme.

“We have informed this price control scheme to consumers in Sibu so we ask consumers to look at price marks on these Chinese New Year festive items.

“The pink price tag is a price control (item). If the price of this item is above the price that has been set, please contact us immediately or report to the nearest KPDNKK office,” he told the press after launching the scheme at a supermarket here yesterday.

The scheme is implemented under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and is effective 10 days from Jan 30 to Feb 8.

There are 12 items on the list of controlled goods for the Chinese New Year.

The items are live chicken at RM6.70 per kg, standard chicken at RM8.50 per kg and super chicken at RM9.50 per kg.

Grade A chicken eggs are sold at 39 sen each while Grade B and Grade C at 38 and 37 sen respectively.

Imported cabbage is sold at RM4 per kg and garlic is RM7 per kg.

Seafood such as pomfret (ikan bawal) is sold at RM38 per kg while white shrimp is RM35 per kg.

For pork (belly) prices, per kg is RM19.50 and RM18.50 per kg for meat and fat.

Meanwhile, KPDNKK enforcement officers will be at locations such as the public market, farmer’s market and supermarket to conduct inspection and monitoring.

This is a continuing effort to protect consumers from profiteering activities by unethical traders during the festive seasons.
