KUCHING: H&L Supermarket has become the first retail company to secure SIRIM certification for its face masks.

According to its statement on Tuesday (Apr 19), an application was made on Mar 8 to ensure H&L produces its very own brand of non-medical face masks that comply with safety standards.

“Our priority is to resolve the issue of dumping of poor quality non-medical face masks in the Malaysian market and wish to protect the interests of consumers.

“We want to prevent substandard face masks in Malaysia, which may not offer adequate protection against COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases,” it said.

Following this, it explained that the H&L non-medical face masks (regulated under the Medical Device Act 2012 [Act 737]) already comply with SIRIM 40 and CWA 17553.

“Our non-medical face mask has gone through the SIRIM Certification Process for Non-Medical Face Masks, which consists of document evaluation, initial audit, sample selection and testing, recommendation and approval, surveillance audit,” it said.
