MIRI: An investigation is being carried out on the MV Dayang Topaz vessel, which crashed into an oil rig platform last Tuesday morning.

“All relevant authorities have been informed on the incident. Our utmost priority is the safety of every personnel involved,” said Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) in a statement today.

The statement added that Petronas will continue to ensure reliable gas supply to consumers in the event of any interruption.

The vessel, owned by DESB Marine Services Sdn Bhd, was undertaking operational work at the Baram platform of Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB), 14 nautical miles off Miri, when it collided with the oil rig after its anchor wire gave way due to bad weather last Tuesday (Oct 27) at 6.23am.

One hundred and eighty seven crew members were on board at the time of the incident.

A total of 125 survivors, who jumped overboard the vessel, were later rescued and taken to Krokop Offshore Jetty. However, two fatalities were reported.
