Tiong raising the issue of MyKID application at JPN Bintulu branch.

BINTULU: It’s about time the National Registration Department (JPN) looked into the outdated system and software problems with regard to MyKID applications at the Bintulu JPN branch, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said.

The Bintulu MP said he was made to understand that the JPN Bintulu branch could not accept applications to obtain a children’s identity card with a chip (MyKID) because the system and software programmes had not been updated.

“Instead, applicants are asked to apply at JPN Kuching, JPN Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Kuching, JPN UTC Sibu and JPN UTC Miri.  This is something that shouldn’t happen because it makes it difficult for the people.

“I emphasise that the JPN headquarters and the JPN Kuching branch need to look seriously at this issue and there should be a sense of shame with the service system that is still not improved,” Tiong posted in his Facebook page today.

He said, the department should understand the problems faced by the people who had to spend more time to obtain services from locations that were far away from their homes.

“Do the officers sitting in the air-conditioned offices understand the plight of these people?

“This is not acceptable at all.  Therefore, I urge the director general of JPN Bintulu branch to address this matter immediately by solving problems in the registration division, improving the existing shortcomings, ensuring that orderly mechanisms are implemented and addressing the issue of staff shortages,” he said.

Tiong said at the same time, he would also raise the matter to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

He said that previously there was a plan to establish UTC in Bintulu to provide convenience to the public.

“Unfortunately, the plan was cancelled by Pakatan Harapan.  In this regard, I hope the Ministry of Finance could reconsider establishing a UTC in Bintulu for the benefit of the people, including upgrading the JPN Bintulu branch,” he added.

He said the MyKID was introduced to facilitate parents to handle procedures related to their children.

“It is easier to use the MyKID than a birth certificate.  An unsuccessful application for a MyKID will certainly cause inconvenience for the parents to manage their children’s matters.

“It is understood that the MyKID launched by JPN has run out of stock for more than a year, and the relevant system software for the purpose of processing MyKID has not been upgraded according to present needs.

“I sincerely hope this problem can be resolved as soon as possible for the benefit of the people. Many parents are facing difficulties in obtaining MyKID for their new-born children.

“Instead they have to use their child’s birth certificate to handle important matters,” Tiong said.
