KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos has lauded Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) on successfully setting up its DeTar Putra hall as a vaccination centre.

“This morning, I made my official rounds and I must say that Unimas has done a truly great job in setting up a vaccination centre.

“It’s very big, very impressive, and systems are well done and all good and fine,” he said in a statement today (June 15).

He said Unimas is now making arrangements for the vaccination of its 2,400 academic and non-academic staff members.

“By Friday, members of the public will flock in. In time, 5,000 will be vaccinated per day at Unimas. Simply commendable,” he said.

He said it was good that more public and government agencies were chipping in of their own accord to play a role in the current Covid-19 war.

“At this rate, the government can and will achieve their goal of vaccinating 200,000 Malaysians per day and by December, 80 percent of the population will get the doses,” he said.

Minos said if these goals were achieved, the government should be saluted and the people will be liberated from Covid-19.

He said that with agencies such as Unimas taking the initiative and lead, Sarawak could certainly achieve its target of vaccinating 80 percent of its population by August.

“It is clear and straight-forward: everyone wants to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

“I believe that everyone now believes that only the vaccination can help in preventing Covid-19 infections and even death,” he said.
