DALAT: A 75-year-old woman was reported missing and feared drowned after she failed to return home last Monday evening.

The woman identified as Jini Bt Tarubok was said to be using a boat on the Batang Igan (Igan River) at Kampung Bungan Besar near here.

According to a report, villagers saw the boat used by Jini floating on the river but she was not around. This was also confirmed by her son, Saleh B Amit.

It added that the incident (missing) is believed to have occurred near SK Kampung Bungan but only came to light when Jini failed to return home around 5pm.

Following an unfruitful search and rescue (SAR) operation conducted by the villagers, the incident was then reported to the relevant authority.

Upon receiving the report yesterday morning, firemen from  Mukah Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA Mukah) about 80 kilometres away were deployed at about 10.45am and arrived at the scene at about 12.20pm.

With one rescue  boat and utility vehicle, they have to travel by land to Dalat Bazaar and then cruising along Sungai Kut (Kut Canal) before heading to Batang Igan.

Office-in-charge of BOMBA Mukah, Bonny Martin Saging Mato, when was contacted yesterday afternoon revealed that the operation went on as usual but by 3.30pm they still have not found Jini.

“There was no witness to the incident and we just join the villagers in the search and rescue (SAR) operation and until now the operation is still ongoing. Now I am at the scene and we have yet to find the woman,” Bonny said.
