KUCHING: Two councils, namely the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) and the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), face two common problems – severe traffic congestion at Mile 8 Kuching-Serian Road and illegal dumping.

To resolve these never-ending problems, both have decided to continue working together to keep areas under their jurisdiction safe and clean.

MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos said as both councils have some common problems, they should continue to put their heads together for resolutions.

“One of the common problems is the severe traffic jam at 8th Mile Kuching-Serian Road which comes under the jurisdiction of both municipalities.

“A solution must be found so that commuters need not needlessly suffer traffic woes and both MPKS and MPP will soon bring this matter up to the higher authorities,” he said in a statement.

The other problem is the perpetual illegal dumping issue which both councils have to put up with daily.

“The culprits carry out the illegal activity when the councils are not alert. Therefore,  both councils must look out for one another,” he added.

On drug activities in their areas, Minos said the councils will report to the police should they come across anything suspicious.

“This is because areas under MPKS and MPP have become a ‘playground’ for drug traffickers  and we do not want that.

“It is impossible for the police to handle the problem alone, so we need to step in and assist them by any means necessary,” he added.
