500 primary schools nationwide partake in Yeo’s programme

KUCHING: Approximately 500 primary schools throughout Malaysia participated in “Program Tajaan Biasiswa: #SayaSihat Bersama Yeo’s”.

The five-month programme has been ongoing from March 13 until August 15, this year with it serving as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by Yeo Hiap Seng (Malaysia) Berhad (Yeo’s), a leading food and beverage company and approved by Ministry of Education.

With its main objective to provide an opportunity for school children in Malaysia to showcase their proficiency in language while fostering their creativity through writing short essays on healthy eating and lifestyle, the programme was in line with the intention of the Malaysian government to improve the language proficiency of the students and their creativity too.

With respect to the programme, in a scholarship presentation ceremony held at SJK Chung Hua No.5’s school hall in Jalan Mendu near here on Thursday, Amanda Kho Jiun Ying, 11, of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chung Hua Pujut, Miri has emerged as the first prize winner on student category of Program Tajaan Biasiswa: #SayaSihat bersama Yeo’s.

Amanda who brought home RM3,000 worth of scholarship prize explained that her wish to get a gift for her beloved grandmother.

“My grandmother and I collected Yeo’s packets as we visited recreation parks, stores, restaurants and the school surroundings.

“The effort my grandmother to help me, inspired me even more to work harder in writing a creative short essay. Her love also inspired me never to give up,” she said, indicating her plans to save a big portion of the scholarship for her future education purpose.

Meanwhile, Eileen Chan Jia Syn of SJK Chung Hua No.5 here, the second runner-up winner shared her amusing way of collecting Yeo’s packets.

“I introduced and treated Yeo’s Yeogurt to my family, cousins and friends. Once they have enjoyed the drinks, I immediately grab the packets! It’s no loss for my hardwork because winning this will only add to my educational savings,” she said.

Second runner-up winner Wee Jing Fang, 10, of SJKC Chung Hua, Miri said, she will save this scholarship prize to help fund herself to study in university.

Another second runner-up prize recipient, Chin Jing Xuan, 12, of SJK Chung Hua Batu 10, Kuching told reporters that this achievement had taught her never to give up and she learnt to be more hardworking to achieve more.

Present to grace the ceremony earlier was Deputy Divisional Education Officer of Kuching Chen Fei Ming accompanied by Senior Manager (Corporate Communication) of Yeo’s Joe Wong, Assistant Vice President of Sales (East Malaysia) of Yeo’s Billy Chin, Sales Manager of Yeo’s Tay Boon Huat, Principal of SJK Chung Hua No.5 Chin Mui Ling and Chairman of Management Board of SJK Chung Hua No.1 to 6 Wong Tiong Hook.
