SERIAN: The state government under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will focus on perimeter survey and issuing land titles to eligible individuals.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, although the federal government no longer provides funding for perimeter survey, the people’s rights should be given to the rightful owners.

“That is why our Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg has allocated RM40 million in the State Budget 2019 for perimeter survey and surveying individual lands.

“At the same time, the government will also continue to carry out perimeter survey on NCR land, where it has not been done,” Tengah said.

“So far, there has been no announcement on fund for perimeter survey from the federal government. We have to take our own initiative as the state government acknowledges that land is an issue very close to the people’s heart and would always strive to highlight the importance of perimeter survey and individual lots,” he added.

Tengah who is also Urban Development Minister and Natural Resources Second Minister said this at a ceremony to present land titles under Section 16 and 18 of the Sarawak Land Code at Kampung Pichin in Serian yesterday.

Meanwhile, he also praised the Bidayuh community as there were not many issues such as overlapping land or individuals claiming land belonging to others.

“The nature of our conduct is not a deliberate job because we have dialogue sessions and also refer to various records. If you are entitled to it, you must have it,“ he said.

He added that the land which is still disputed in court to determine the right ownership will not be surveyed until the dispute is settled.

A total of 573 land titles under Section 18 (for Agriculture) were presented to their owners at the event.

Also present was Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong.
