MIRI: An Upper Six student of SMK Baru Miri, Laura Lunna ak Ranggau on Saturday night emerged champion in the Public Speaking Competition for Miri and Bintulu Division held at the RTM Miri Auditorium. Laura, 19, who has been involved in public speaking since Form One, spoke on “Cinta Negara Teras Keamanan (The Core of Peace is Patriotism).”

She is not new to Public Speaking Competitions, having emerged champion in a state-level competition entitled “Pertandingan Pidato Tokoh Nilam Peringkat Negeri Sarawak” in 2015.

The Public Speaking Competition for Miri and Bintulu Division was organised by the Information Department to unearth new speaking talents among youth aged 18 and above and promote the National Language.

Laura will be representing Miri Division at the state-level Public Speaking Competition in April. Meanwhile, Siti Zul Lailee Binti Kamsan came second in the Public Speaking Competition for Miri and Bintulu Division while Saipul Izzuwan Dahari was third; both are students of UPM Bintulu Campus. All winners received cash prizes and certificates of participation.
