KUCHING: 6,900 participants have registered for this Sunday’s Mayor’s Walk which is organised by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
Registered participants are urged to collect their kits on Friday (9.00am – 4.00pm), Saturday (9.00am-12.00pm) and Sunday (5.30am – 6.30am).
“We urge all the participants to retrieve their kits on Friday and Saturday at our Lobby to avoid any inconvenience right before the walk starts. Bring your registration slips along.
“If you register at the last minute, we cannot promise you that you can get the kit as it depends on availability,”said MBKS Mayor, Dato James Chan Khay Syn during a press conference held at the council’s chamber yesterday.
He explained the aim of the walk was to promote healthy living and close ties with families and friends.
He said the oldest participant, so far, was 84 years old while the youngest was one year old. Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian will be present to flag off the event at 7.00am.
Meanwhile, 222 teams with 888 people have registered for the MBKS Treasure Hunt to be held simultaneously with the Mayor’s Walk. The treasure hunt will commence at 7.15am.
A Zumba session will be conducted by Level Up Fitness at 6.30am before the walk and treasure hunt.
Photo booths will be set up during the events. Each participant will also be given a cream roll bun, Revive Isotonic drink and also drinking water. Balloons will also be given out to children.
Accompanying the Mayor during the press conference yesterday were Cr. Stanley Lau and Cr. Lu Cho Heng, Organising Chairman and Deputy Organising Chairman of Mayor’s Walk respectively.
