KUCHING: To acknowledge the active food culture in Kuching City, two business owners of Jalan Padungan, namely Batik Boutique Hotel and Meritin Hotel, have initiated a month-long eating programme.
The Padungan Food Safari is organised in collaboration with What About Kuching (WAK) 2018, and will run from 29th September 2018 to 28th October 2018, giving Kuching’s residents and visitors the opportunity to explore and experience the various food offerings available along Jalan Padungan.
Altogether, 60 food and beverage outlets along Japan Padungan are participating in the Padungan Food Safari.
“Basically, the programme involves a Passport, which will be distributed throughout this month at all the participating vendors outlets,” explains Olivia Ting, Executive Director and General Manager of Meritin Hotel, also one of the organisers of the event.
“Passport holders will need to patronise the outlets and get their Passport stamped. Those who have collected 20 stamps can come to either Meritin Hotel or Batik Boutique Hotel to claim their prize, which is a WAK2018 goodie bag.
“Our objective is to showcase the rich and colourful food culture of this street,” quipped Jacqueline Gong, owner of Batik Boutique Hotel.
Jalan Padungan’s history dates back to as early as the 1920s and tells stories of Chinese towkays moving in into their new homes with their new cars, fresh from their rubber fortunes. Almost one hundred years on, today, this street is home to a diverse offering of local and foreign cuisines, and of brand new as well as generations-old businesses. Indeed, Padungan provides a charming food sampler experience for this city.
For this month-long festival, members of the public are encouraged to come to Jalan Padungan and board the Padungan Food Safari.
WAK 2018 is an iconic annual festival that celebrates art, culture and lifestyle, and supports inbound travel in a bold and innovative way. This is the second year of this community driven festival.
