PMU student finalist in national skills competition

MUKAH: A student from Mukah Polytechnic (PMU) made this division proud when he qualified for the final of the World Skills Malaysia Youth Competition 2017.

Muhammad Syafiq B Arman would be rubbing shoulders with other finalists of IT Network System Administration to continue the feat of PMU Polyskills Team which previously reached the final of the national-level competition.

The competition which was previously known as Malaysia Skills Competition (PKM) is the sole annual skills competition which is aimed at selecting and recognising excellent trainees and skilled workers which is conducted in two levels, namely qualification and final rounds.

Muhammad who is also a final year student of Diploma in Information Technology (Networking) showed his colours when he represented PMU in the Polyskills Competition held in Merlimau Polytechnic  from 14 to 17 November last year.

Trained by Norshahril Abu Talib and Mohd Azuwan Efendy Mail and with the full support of  the staff of PMU’s Department of Information and Communication and the top management, the feat of being the top rank among polytechnics in the country made Syafiq qualified to represent the Ministry of Higher Education at the pre-qualification round of the competition held  at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTEM) last April.

Syafiq would be competing with other students in the final namely from  Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah, Politeknik Ungku Omar, Politeknik Mersing, Kolej Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kolej Vokasional Datuk Seri Mohd Zin, UTEM and Kolej Vokasional Shah Alam at Pusat Latihan Pengajar dan Kemahiran Lanjutan (CIAST), Shah Alam from 12-15 August.

The final will see 10 participants competing against each other for the `Anugerah Tangan Emas Perdana Menteri’ (Prime Minister’s Golden Hand Award) or gold, silver, bronze or certificate of excellence for the respective categories.

Among the fields featured in the competition organised by  Skills Development Department of the Ministry of Human Resource to be held at four locations are Automobile Technology, Beauty Therapy, Cabinet Making, Cooking, Electronics, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design Technology, Hair Dressing, IT Software for Business Solutions, Mechatronic, Restaurant Service and Web Design.

The fields to be organised by the Ministry of Works are Electrical Installation, Bricklaying, Plumbing & Heating, Welding, Painting & Decorating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Wall & Floor Tiling and Joinery.

PMU management, staff and students are fully behind Muhammad Syafiq and want to see him bring home the national award and to represent the country in  the Asean Skills Competition (ASC)  to be held in Bangkok next year.
