MUKAH: This year’s Mukah Kaul Festival will not be held if Covid-19 has not subsided in the state.

However, the Kaul Serahang Kakan ceremony will still go on this year.

This was said by Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, who is also president of the Mukah Melanau Association (PMM), when asked about the latest developments in the planning of the Mukah Kaul Festival 2021 on Sunday (Jan 10).

“If the pandemic still exists, only the Kaul Serahang Kakan ceremony will be held. This matter is important to ensure the safety of the public and prevent the pandemic from spreading further,” he said when contacted by Suara Sarawak, New Sarawak Tribune’s sister paper.

However, he said the Kaul Festival will still be one of the main focuses in the Sarawak tourism calendar which will be held conditionally in accordance with the conditions of Covid-19 pandemic as well as the standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines that have been set.
