KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today offered his condolences to the government and people of United Kingdom (UK) following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In a Facebook post today, he described the late monarch as the longest reigning head of state in the history of the world.

“She is also known for her dedication and her concern in safeguarding the welfare of her people,” he said.

Ismail Sabri also said the queen was instrumental in maintaining cordial relationships between the UK with other countries including Malaysia.

“Her contributions will be remembered and cherished,” he said, adding that he hoped that the royal family and the people in UK will be steadfast in facing this saddening news.

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history and an icon instantly recognisable to billions of people around the world, died on Thursday. She was 96.

She came to the throne aged just 25 in 1952. Her 70-year reign straddled two centuries of seismic social, political and technological upheaval.
