GEDONG: The local residents were literally over the moon as they received financial aid from the Gedong Service Centre and Lembaga Tabung Haji Sarawak on Saturday.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg distributed the financial aid to 600 asnaf (needy individuals) during the breaking of fast event at Al Kawthar Mosque here.

The recipients from various age groups, both young and old, were seen in a joyous mood as the aid would help to ease their financial burden in celebrating the forthcoming Hari Raya festival.

New Sarawak Tribune interviewed some of the individuals on how they felt upon receiving the financial assistance.

MARIANAI LEN, 46

I feel so happy to receive this aid from the government. Actually, this is my first time participating in this event and receiving this financial aid, it is so overwhelming to me.

NOOR EMYZA, 31

As a recipient of this financial aid, I feel happy because I’ve never received anything directly from the Premier himself before this. For this Raya, I have yet to make any preparations to celebrate but I hope I can come up with something this year.

As a resident here in Gedong, events such as this are very welcomed. This gives us a way to meet the Premier and to enhance the relationship with each other here.

RAINI BUJE, 61

The aid that is given out here can help contribute to the wants of the people who are in need. Those who attended here also appreciate our leaders who sympathise with their people’s needs.
