SIBU: The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts has approved a total of 22 applications amounting to RM1.284 million of the Facilitation Fund for Heritage, Arts, and Culture as of Aug 14 this year.

Its deputy minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan said that last year, the ministry supported a total of 80 applications for the same fund.

“So far, we have received and approved four applications from Sibu and one from Sarikei.

“We have yet to receive any applications from Song, Kanowit, or Kapit. Hence, we encourage any industry players from these areas to apply for this aid,” he said in his speech at a townhall session organised by the ministry at a renowned hotel here today (Aug 26).

Snowdan stressed that the Facilitation Fund for Heritage, Arts, and Culture supports a range of programmes and activities that contribute to the development of arts, crafts, and heritage in the state.

Meanwhile, commenting on the event, Snowdan said that it is the fourth series of town halls held throughout Sarawak.

He said that the first series was held in Kota Samarahan on Feb 25, followed by Miri on Mar 18, and Bintulu on Aug 12.

“Through this townhall session, we hope to get as much input or comments from all of you on how we can develop and bring Sarawak’s creative industry to a higher potential,” he said.

Also present were the ministry permanent secretary Datuk Sherrina Hussaini, Sarikei Resident Michael Ronnie Langgong, Sarawak Arts Council chief executive officer Dayang Mariana Abang Bolhassan, and others.
