MIRI: The BN government has always been concerned about the safety of the people when using the coastal roads in the State.

Several accident prone areas have been identified and upgrading works are being approved with some under consideration for approval.

In Sibuti district, three accident-prone areas have been identified and one of them will be upgraded soon by installing traffic lights to facilitate traffic flow in the area.

“The area that will be first upgraded is Sepupok’s junction (Simpang Sepupok) as the area is very dangerous with many heavy vehicles going through the junction,” said Assistant Minister of Coastal Road, Datuk Julaihi Narawi yesterday morning during a briefing session on coastal road upgrading work updates with the community leaders in Sibuti.

The briefing was held at Bekenu community hall.

Also present were Bekenu Assemblywoman, Rosey Yunus and BN-PBB candidate for Sibuti, Lukanisman Awang Sauni.

Apart from Sepupok’s junction, two other in the list are Bungai’s Junction and Saeh.

However, estimated costs involved in the upgrading works have yet to be disclosed.

Aware on the frequently used by both light and heavy vehicles, Julaihi informed that the State and Federal governments have been planning to upgrade the state’s coastal roads stretching from Telok Melano (Kuching) up to the Northen Region here.

“We are fully aware of the rakyat’s needs for these coastal roads to be upgraded and broadened for safety purposes.

“The government has been thinking about the expansion since the previous Chief Minister (Tok Nan).

“Therefore, I hope for the smooth and continuous planning of these projects,” he said, adding that voters should cast their votes wisely.

Apart from upgrading works of coastal roads in the State, Julaihi also disclosed that his ministry would be looking into building bridges along the coastal roads.

“We have also identified several missing links along Pasi-Tanjong Manis-meradong roads, and we will build roads or bridges to connect the areas,” he pointed.

The BN government, he added, has clear development planning.

“We are hoping that the people in Sibuti would give their undivided support to BN, so that what we have been planning all these years could be delivered smoothly,” said Julaihi.

“We need the right ‘connection’ to ensure that our voice could be heard in Parliament,” he added.

During the two-hour briefing, the crowd was told about the latest development projects involving coastal roads in Sibuti.

Amongst those updates were: Sungai Sibuti bridge, 70m long, Kampung Saeh’s road upgrading project (16km), which currently is 54 per cent completed, and upgrading works for ‘Sekolah Daif’ – SK Kelapa Sawit 2 in Sibuti which has been choosen and would be build using IBS system.

At the end of the event, Julaihi and his entourage visited Sepupok junction to inspect the traffic flow in the area.
