KAPIT: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the four individuals feared drowned near SK Lepong Balleh at Melekun Road has been suspended and resume tomorrow.

Kapit Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that today’s efforts (Mar 8) utilised a bifurcated strategy.

A team spearheaded by the police, with support from the Resident’s Office and relatives of the victims, engaged in a downstream search employing a boat.

Simultaneously, a second squad, comprising Bomba personnel, the Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM), and the Sarawak Rivers Board (LSS), embarked on an upstream search. This group utilised three boats, focusing on water surface search techniques across a 5-kilometre radius from the incident location.

The rapid river flow poses significant challenges to the operation, which has yet to locate any victims.
