KUCHING: The Sarawak Government welcomes foreign investors worldwide to explore Sarawak’s investment potential in the new economy driven by green technology.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said implementation of the state government’s policy by promoting green energy through the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 has made Sarawak as one of the preferred destinations for foreign investment.

He said therefore the state government is inviting foreign investment to add value to green energy by starting research and development (R&D) towards the transition to clean energy.

“We (the Sarawak government) will prioritise investments that focus on clean and green technology that will create economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability.

“At the same time, we are exploring the added value of clean energy sources in the field of hydrogen production as well as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using micro algae,” he said.
He said this when delivering the keynote address at the opening of MINTRED Connects@London 2023 programme held at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill London yesterday (Dec 8).

Abang Johari said the green energy sector also needs to withstand future challenges in order to face developments at the global level.

“Thus, it is important to ensure the development of the clean energy sector remains sustainable and competitive in the future,” he said.

He also said that he had recently returned from attending the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai and the green energy policy introduced by the Sarawak Government is in line with the world’s needs in energy transition towards cleaner energy sources.

“Apart from that, the recognition of Sarawak as a high income state by the World Bank has seen the state on the right track to drive economic growth thus attracting foreign investors,” he said.

Later, in the same ceremony, the Premier also witnessed the signing ceremony of four Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) in cooperation in investment, tourism, art and product distribution.

The MoU involved were between Fame International Consulting (MM2H) Sdn Bhd and Salsa San Limited; Fine Impression and Crafito Arts & Film Academy London Ltd; InvestSarawak Sdn Bhd and WWIP Ltd; and Leonard Design Architects with Penan Women Project (P.W.P Company).
