KUCHING: Sarawakians are urged to continue to showcase their talents in the entertainment industry as there is a huge potential for Sarawak to produce more films.

“SuperMum” film director Bjarne Wong told New Sarawak Tribune today that he worked on the film upon the request of the late Datuk Lai Meng since she played a big role in the film’s story line.

“Her messages in the film are to remind the public that love never fails and the love received from your family is important,” Won said during a meet-and-greet session with the “SuperMum” cast members at Kozi Square, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg here, today.

Bjarne, who has directed seven films including “SuperMum”, added that the film was recently premiered in Peninsular Malaysia and that reviews were positive as there were tears of joy for the touching film.

“During the shooting of a hospital scene, I also cried as I felt that even though Datuk Lai Meng had passed on, her presence was still felt since she was a legend in the film industry for 53 years.

“Even during post-production and editing, I was in tears because the messages from the film are just so touching and I am proud that I have the privilege to be the film director for ‘SuperMum’,” he said.

Bjarne who is a Sarawakian hoped that more films can be produced in the state because there are a lot of young talents.

He also advised the youths not to keep to themselves but to go all out and challenge themselves in the entertainment industry.

“It is not easy to be in the entertainment industry but young talents in Sarawak should challenge themselves and find the right people to work with.

“As a film director I want to promote the messages of the film; what is the point, what can the public get from watching this film, and if the film has no message, I will not do it,” he pointed out.

“SuperMum” producer Stephen Wong said that he had invested in the film and always hoped that with what he had learned and experienced in Kuala Lumpur for 10 years, he would contribute back to Sarawak.

“I have brought a lot of good ideas and activities to Kuching and in terms of the entertainment industry and culture, Sarawak should have more potential which is why we are bringing in more people and investing in this film,” he said.

He is also optimistic that the entertainment industry in Sarawak will soon grow and blossom.

Supermodel Amber Chia, who was very grateful to be part of Bjarne’s film, said that she had starred in three of Bjarne’s films and her characters were very different in each one of them.

“I have attended the movie gala premiere night in Peninsular Malaysia and I cried watching the film as the scenes in the film reflect on what is happening in our lives, especially for mothers.

“As a mother myself, the film has touched my heart with scenes that are about a mother’s love, family and relationships,” she said.

Chia further urged Kuchingites to bring their families to watch the film made by a Sarawakian and hopes that after watching it, it will make them feel more appreciated by their family and the people around them.
