BINTULU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a local man reported missing while fishing at a riverbank behind a shopping mall at Jalan Tun Razak last Friday (Jan 20), have been completely called off on Tuesday (Jan 24).

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the four-day operation had been carried around the riverbanks of Kemena River estuary, upstream, downstream, and along the coast of Jepak to Tatau.

Despite that, the victim identified as Willa Fredo Sabai, 29, was still not found.

Following discussions with those involved in the operation, the decision to end the search was made around 5pm.

However, should there be any signs of the victim, the operation will resume.

On Friday, Willa had left his house to fish around 4pm and did not return home that night.

Based on the police report, the victim’s family only found his clothes and slippers on the riverbank behind the shopping mall.
