SIBU: The Health Ministry (MoH) has approved a refurbished Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine costing over RM2 million to Sibu General Hospital.

Announcing this, DeputyPublic Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said the machine is a donation from the Sarawak Heart Foundation (SHF).

“It was approved on Oct 25, 2023. Furthermore, the MoH has also approved the upgrading of the existing site to facilitate the smooth installation and operation of the machine. The project is scheduled to commence in early 2024 and it will take about five months to complete.

“The availability of an MRI machine in Sibu General Hospital will bring about immense benefits for our community. It will reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for specialised diagnostic procedures,” he said.

He said this at the New Year Countdown 2024 hosted by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang here last night (Dec 31).

He said the MRI machine reflects the commitment to continuously invest in the well-being and healthcare infrastructure of the community.

Tiang also urged everyone to approach the new year with a positive outlook and continue supporting and uplifting one another.

“Together, we can build a future that is brighter and more prosperous than ever before. Let us continue to support and uplift one another, to collaborate and innovate, and to strive for excellence in everything we do.

“As we bid farewell to the year 2023 and welcome the promising year of 2024, I cannot help but reflect on the challenges we faced and the achievements we accomplished. Just like any other year, the year 2023 was not an easy one and at times, it tested our resilience in facing the issues that affected our lives,” he said.
